This is the order it goes in. Skip a step or do them out of order, and you pay for it later, usually in a wet basement or a cracked driveway.
Clear
Trees, brush and every stump out of the build area. Logs sorted for milling or firewood.
Dig
Septic test pit, basement, trenches. Topsoil stockpiled for later, not hauled away.
Set Up for Footings
Pad levelled and compacted on undisturbed soil, ready for your foundation crew.
Finish
Septic in, driveway built, final grade, then topsoil and sod or landscaping. The lot drains the way it should.

We have been building houses since 1979. We know what a lot has to look like when the foundation crew shows up, because most of the time that foundation crew is us.
- No buried stumps or organics under anything you build on. They rot, and the ground drops.
- Drainage first. We grade so water leaves the house, the septic bed and the driveway.
